MBTI Opportunity for Regular UW Staff

Posting from Liz Koblyk, UW Staff Career Advisor

Proactive career planning can involve a range of activities, from simply updating your resume, to devoting time to better understanding who you are.  One of the better tools for career proactivity is the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI).  Coming up on April 13th and 20th, Career Services is offering regular UW staff members a two-part workshop on the MBTI.  Some people take the assessment primarily for the list of career options it suggests.  That’s a legitimate use, but the assessment can be even more valuable in terms of what it says about how you work.

No assessment is ever as complex as an individual human being, but when I first took the MBTI, I was surprised at how closely it reflected the positive feedback I’d received in the past from clients, colleagues and supervisors.  Because I’ve been lucky enough to work with very tactful people in the past, I haven’t always had the constructive feedback I would like; the MBTI identified areas for improvement, and it was spot on about my weaknesses.  I’ve used its recommendations both to find more meaning in my work and to select skills to strengthen.

If you are interested in using the MBTI for your own career development, you can take the assessment for free as part of our upcoming workshop or for follow up in an individual appointment.

Appointments and workshops with Liz can be booked on the Career Services website.
